FIRST ROUND OF ULTIMATE XC HALLENGE, NOW ONLINE

It is now up to the mountain biking community, to decide which two teams will represent Race Face at one of the most difficult marathon mountain bike races in the globe. All expenses paid. RaceFace.com now has the videos and bios for the first four teams. The first round of online voting starts today.

Each team has its own story and its own inspiration. Eric Crowe and James Crowe, father-son team from Whistler, BC. Team Crowerace Face is motivated by the bonds of family and the desire to share an unforgettable life experience. They ride mountain bikes across some of the most rugged terrains in North America.

Team Poached Salmon with a White Wine Sauce is made up of Sean Moran (aka Captain Fantastic), and Bill Hunt (aka Captain Fantastic). Coworkers from Canberra, Australia’s Maladjusted Bike promise to do everything they can to win the TransRockies. They plan to bring Aussie color to UXC with their vibrant personalities and dazzling good looks.

Both TransRockies veterans Dave Ford from Calgary and Gerry McCuaig from Team Deadgoat Racing Retreads have registered and paid their entry fees. If they win the UXC, Ford and McCuaig will donate their entry fees to the Isabelle Dube trust fund. Dube, a competitor last year in TransRockies was tragically killed during a Grizzly Bear encounter in Canmore, AB.

Team H.O.N.O.R.R. is made up of Shawn Lester (coworker) and Stephen Barney (coworker), both from Gardnersville, Nevada. He Only Needs One Reason to Ride. They will ride in memory Alaina Lesters, their 4-year-old daughter who died two years ago. The TransRockies will end one day before Alaina’s birthday, August 14. This adds to their motivation. TransRockies rookies will use Alaina’s memories to keep the cranks turning.

Members of the online community will have one week to vote. The first of two teams that will represent Race Face at 2005 TransRockies will be selected by the winning team. We will post four more videos next week and our online community will have the opportunity to choose our second team.

The RaceFaces Ultimate XC Challenge, an online contest that is peer-judged, is similar to RaceFaces’ highly successful Ultimate Freeride Challenge. RaceFace will send two teams of riders to participate in the 2005 TransRockies. All expenses are covered: flights, accommodation, components, clothing and team support. Each team is worth more than the value it brings to the winners!

The Ultimate XC Challenge winners will be announced July 8. This gives them a month to prepare for the TransRockies event, which takes place August 7-13.
